I spent the summer of 2018 working for News21, a national reporting project based out of Phoenix, Arizona at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. I was selected, along with 35 other students across the country, to report on hate crimes in America. During the ten-week program, I traveled to Portland, Oregon to cover a counter protest between extremist groups and Detroit, Michigan to interview victims of hate crimes about their stories and extremist group leaders about their ideologies. Our project produced 12 long-form articles, a 43-minute documentary and a six-part podcast series.
The project has won a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Human Rights and an Editors and Publishers of America Award for Best College/University Investigative Documentary Report
